Simple Santa's for mother and child. The pictures
don't do these sweet aprons justice.
Step 1. cut off both of the waist
ties. NOT THE NECK TIES!
Step 2. For adult apron cut a 3 inch x
3 inch square of plastic, for childs apron cut a 2 inch x 2 inch piece
of plastic. This is thin and flexible like a plastic milk jug.
Step 3. Cut 2 slits in each buckle, see picture above to help you.
Adult aprons cuts are 2 and 1/4 inches long each. Childs apron cuts are
1 and 1/4 inches long.
Measuring for waist/tie
Step 4. Place Elmer's Glue on one side of each buckle section. Smooth
the glue to cover entire surface. Place the gold felt onto the glued
buckle and cut around all edges. Let it dry.Using an
exacto knife open up the slits in buckles felt covering.
Step 5. Measure across waist area on both your adult and child apron.
Make a note of each measurement: add
inches to the measurement for the adult and add
inches for the childs apron.
Adult Apron: Cut 2 pieces of fabric 4 inches wide x 1/2 of the total
Child Apron: Cut 2 pieces of fabric 3 inches wide x 1/2 of the total
Step 6. Place the two short ends of the tie sections right sides
together . Stitch across using a 4/8 inch seam.Press seam open and top
stitch at right side approximately 3/8 inch on either side of the seam.
Step 7. Turn each short end to the inside 1/2 inch, press. Turn both
long edges to the inside approximately 3/8 of an inch, press well, fold
waist tie in half wrong sides together.Pin. Sew to close open edge and
top stitch around remaining three sides of tie. Do this for both the
adult and child waist/ties.
Step 8. Top stitch using black thread 3/8 of an inch from all buckle
Step 9. Thread waist/tie through buckle, find apron center and position
top edge of waist tie as shown.
Step 10. Top stitch both long edges of tie to apron, lift up edges of
buckle slightly to sew under.
Step 11. Place fake fur at top edge, pin and cut to fit the curve of
Sew around all four sides. Gently push fur back to sew close to edge.
Mark center placement. Line up center
of buckle with apron center.
Pin waist tie securely
Top edge of waist/tie meets top corner edge of apron body
Line up fur with edges, cut to fit
1 premade adults apron in red
1 premade childs apron in red
1 2 inch square of pliable plastic for child buckle
1 3 inch square of pliable plastic for adult buckle
Small pieces of gold felt for buckle covers
Elmers glue or similar
1/2 yard of black fabric for waist ties. This is enough for both aprons.
White fake fur-the total for both childs and adult apron is
approximately 15 inches long. Note: measure across top front edge of
to determine the exact measurement.
My fake fur is 2 inches wide.
White and black thread.
